Reporter Producer, Education & National Affairs

PBS NewsHour is seeking an enthusiastic individual who will serve as an integral member of the PBS NewsHour’s National Affairs coverage team. The Reporter Producer will research and produce day-of-air and forward-planned segments on a variety of subjects, primarily business, economics, education, health, science, technology, sports, and entertainment in close coordination with the PBS NewsHour’s team of on-air correspondents and anchors.  Additionally, this individual will produce tape packages periodically, closely cover education policy and develop relationships with sources, and conceive and develop pitches for segments that include a detailed explanation of the story.  Minimum of two (2) years experience working in journalism, preferably for a national outlet. Reporting or blogging experience required.

News Producer

Sinclair Broadcast Group/Chattanooga has an immediate opening for a creative News Producer. The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day production of our newscasts. This position will work closely with newsroom managers on the newscast and its content. You will determine the content and flow of newscasts, work with management and on-air staff to generate and write stories, and develop content for our web site.

Skills: 

  • Possess solid news judgment
  • Be a compelling and accurate writer
  • Ability to multitask and manage time in order to put together an exciting and informative newscast
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
  • Must have strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to execute news strategies and goals in daily newscasts
  • Flexibility and on-the-spot problem solving abilities are a must
  • Proficiency with non-linear editing (i.e. Avid) and newsroom systems, such as iNews

Experience and Education:

  • At least one year of experience producing newscasts at a commercial TV station, or equivalent
  • A degree in journalism is preferred

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have outstanding news judgment and be able to craft a thoughtful, visually compelling newscast that meets the high journalistic standards of ABC7 Chicago.   Strong organizational and time-management skills are a must. News Operations Manager

ABC 7 Chicago is looking for its next news operations manager. Join the #1 team in Chicago and help define the future of newsgathering.  You’ll work with a talented group of photographers, editors and editorial staff members as you oversee all operational aspects of the newsgathering process.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage station’s news photographers, media managers and editors; provide those employees with feedback and ensure high quality production values in all newscasts

Schedule photographers, gear and vehicles

Oversee maintenance of news vehicles

Troubleshoot equipment issues and serve as primary news contact to engineering and IT departments

Plan operational aspects of special events coverage, such as election night, major sporting events, and out of town trips

Define workflows in the field, edit area and transmission

Monitor new and emerging technologies and evaluate how those technologies can enhance and streamline news workflows

Work with VP/news director on capital and operational budget development

Take lead on all newsgathering safety and risk management issues

Develop and maintain vendor relationships; negotiate services

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have an in depth knowledge of field newsgathering and edit operations; significant experience dealing with the demands of a 24/7 news operation and the pressures of executing breaking news; knowledge of new and emerging newsgathering technologies such as cellular bonded technology; superb communication and organizational skills

 Preferred Qualifications

5+ years experience as a news photographer; knowledge of labor union contracts preferred.

10pm Newscast Producer

Produce the top-rated 10pm newscast at the best television station in Chicago. ABC7 Chicago is in search of an experienced newsroom leader to join our late news team.

Responsibilities

In addition to crafting a fast paced, visually compelling show, the producer is responsible for communicating with writers and reporters about the focus and format of their stories. The producer will also be responsible for creating graphics and editing video at their desktop.

Qualifications

Show stackers need not apply. Our ideal candidate will be a proven newsroom leader with impeccable judgement about news and use of station resources.  We are looking for someone who will aggressively cover breaking news and showcase it creatively in the 10pm newscast.  Strong writing, communication and organizational skills are a must.  Consistent use of social media in all parts of newscast creation from story selection to on-air presentation is preferred.  3-5 years of large market production experience is a requirement.

Qualifications include:
