Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ)/Weather Presenter/Producer

WTAT FOX 24 in Charleston, SC, is seeking to fill the position of Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ)/Weather Presenter/Producer. The candidate researches, writes, reports, shoots video and edits material for our daily news and lifestyle show, FOX 24 News Now. The candidate will furnish a wide variety of news content either working alone or in tandem with the rest of the team. This position coordinates with the Executive Producer, Segment Producer and Editor/Director. The individual will be called upon to represent WTAT in public in a professional and courteous manner.

 

Essential Job Functions

Writes, reports, presents, shoots, edits video content/assets and stories from concept to finish. Generates story ideas, cultivates news sources and remains knowledgeable regarding places, events, and people in the news, local or national.

 

Builds community contacts, provides daily story notes outlining ideas for future stories. Passes along facts uncovered concerning ongoing projects and shares information relating to upcoming events, meetings, or story developments.

 

Serves as community ambassador for the news department. Responds to concerns of viewers.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements: All must be met to be considered.

 

Education

Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

 

Experience

At least two years experience in broadcast journalism. Experience reporting (MMJ) news at a commercial television station preferred.

 

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must possess advanced understanding of legal and ethical issues impacting journalism.

Ability to combine words and pictures into informative and interesting news stories.

Ability to shoot, write and edit packaged reports.

Advanced knowledge of the locale, governing bodies, demographics and public figures.

Ability to perform quality work in high pressure deadline situations.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must possess valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
