The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s (PHS) Public Landscapes Department is seeking an experienced head gardener whose primary focus will be to care for public landscapes in the Philadelphia area. Working with the Public Landscapes team, this individual will help to develop and implement an elevated standard of maintenance along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Navy Yard and other public spaces in Philadelphia. This individual should be accustomed to working independently and be familiar with diverse horticultural and maintenance practices. Day-to-day responsibilities for the position will include seasonal garden maintenance, planting installations, identification of plant species and cultivars, selective and rejuvenation pruning, irrigation oversight and supplemental watering, contractor relations and task documentation. This individual should be prepared to interface with the public on a variety of gardening topics.
