Digital Sales Specialist

Overview:

This position is an integral part of digital sales.  The DSS (Digital Sales Specialist) is a progressive, creative thinker who can conceptualize, execute, and close revenue producing ideas that connect our advertiser’s goals to our multimedia spot & digital properties, including, but not limited to, the station websites, apps, social media, off-site partners, and agency services.   

This position works with the sales management team including Local Sales Managers and National Sales Manager in business development for the overall operation; specifically championing digital sales.  This position reports directly to the Digital Sales Manager. 

Responsibilities:

  • Drive digital revenue growth for the station and company; take revenue share out of the market, and create new digital business - be a part of every local advertiser’s budget.
  • Work at a partnership/consultative level as an expert in digital & spot advertising with account executives, agencies, and advertisers.
  • Work in tandem with the Digital Sales Managers and LSM to form revenue strategy, expense management, training, and overall cross-media revenue production.
  • Knowledge of all digital sales products, creative, inventory management and pricing strategies.
  • Assist in forecasting revenue, developing and sustaining a business plan to exceed the digital sales budget.
  • Deliver sales presentations solo and in tandem with sales people.
  • Create strong business relationships and develop a sense of team with the Account Executives and assist with targeting.
  • Develop and deliver best practices for digital knowledge among the sales department and clients.
  • Work with 3rd party vendors to support digital initiatives including ad operations, creative, agency services, analytics partners, audience extension partners, contesting and email programs, lead generation, search, and others.
  • Produce reporting, and other support functions of Interactive and other assigned duties.

  • Ability to translate and communicate problems into opportunities.  Creativity and nimbleness is essential.

  • Strong computer skills, proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Social media
  • Some technical skills to work with ad tags, analytics, campaign tools.

Senior Coordinator, National Programming

The WNET family of companies is a major producer of broadcast and online media for local, national and International audiences, creating award-winning content in the areas of arts and culture, news and public affairs, science, natural history, documentaries, and children’s programming.

 

The Senior Coordinator, National Programming will support the national programming department serving as researcher, administrator and liaison between Programming and other WNET departments, with production units of THIRTEEN, WLIW21, and Creative News Group, as well as outside filmmakers and members of PBS.

 

Specific responsibilities for this position will include research support, composing responses to correspondence; screening telephone calls, mail, and publications; preparing and submitting expense reports; managing and maintaining calendars and taking accurate, timely phone messages; updating contacts; maintaining departmental files; arranging travel; making dubs of screeners or clips, and ordering office supplies as necessary. In addition the Senior Coordinator will act as a liaison between the Vice President, senior managers, other production units, as well as the various departments within WNET.  

 

Additionally, the Senior Coordinator will work with the Programming Production Executive in researching and developing new projects; collecting and coordinating materials/clips for Board of Trustees and programming committee meetings and updates from all the units for Station Reports and help update the annual Board handbook.

 

This position will also assist in working with PBS national programming staff regarding programming – scheduling regular calls, meetings, and general administrative management.  Additional responsibilities may be added, appropriate to the skill sets of this position.

 

Qualified candidates must have BS/BA or equivalent work experience and a minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting senior executive(s).  Applicants must have keen internet research abilities, proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, strong organizational skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.  The ability to interact with Senior Managers regarding situations that may contain privileged, sensitive, personal and confidential topics is essential as is excellent follow up skills and attention to detail.  Candidates with production experience and/or editing skills are preferred.

  • Experience performing on-air (radio or TV) hosting duties with a style that is credible, conversational and polished.

  • Moderate experience as a full-time journalist in broadcasting. 
  • Ability to contribute story ideas and prepare material for broadcast, podcasts and web content.
  • Experience conducting relevant, thoughtful live and pre-taped, in-depth interviews with newsmakers, news analysts, experts and other people of interest to the public broadcasting audience.
  • Skills in writing newscasts based on ideastream newsroom reporting, wire copy and other sources. Write promos, teases and intros to reports and interviews.
  • Response to breaking news and tight deadlines quickly and professionally.
  • Knowledge of audio editing software preferable.  Familiarity with public radio journalism a plus. 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Prefer experience hosting NPR’s Morning Edition
  • Graduate of the Morning Edition Graduate School (MEGS) workshop a definite plus

Department Overview:

National Programming's – StudioSix is a quick turnaround production unit, which develops, produces and presents a number of ongoing series and special programs for outlets including PBS, APT, PBS Plus, pbs.orgwgbh.org, and others. Among recent productions are: Point Taken, America After Ferguson, Simply Ming, Moveable Feast, In the Mind of the Chef, Rough Cut with Tommy Mac, Sacred Journeys, Ice Warriors, I’ll Have What Phil’s Having and more in the pipeline. 

In addition, the StudioSix team also researches and develops select R&D under the direction of the VP of National Productions and the Executive in Charge of StudioSix for PBS, primetime and other Cable / Digital Media outlets.

Position Overview: 

The Associate Producer will be the primary lead with all aspects of pre-production, travel & shoot planning, booking guests, preparing shoot itineraries and schedules, logging of media footage, compiling all necessary releases, amongst other duties as assigned. 

It will be essential that the candidate feels comfortable and can take initiative in making phone calls, scheduling travel, manage logistics for both domestic and international production shoots, as well as multi-task on other production related projects at the same time. 

In addition, the candidate will provide support during the shutdown of all projects and ensuring back-ups of all media, coordination with tape library, creating music and visual cue sheets for shutdown, and other duties as assigned. The candidate will also be vital to assist in researching talent, topics and content development for preliminary R&D projects. Must have TV Production experience and strong research, booking and organizational skills.

 

Skills Required:

- TV Production experience is necessary. Studio and Field Production experience is preferred. 
- Strong organizational skills and experience in managing media both tapes and tapeless. 
- Positive attitude, with the ability to work with Executive Producers, Sr. Producers, Editors and others in a collaborative / team environment – often working toward stringent time deadlines and changing priorities. 
- Ability to think big and out of the box and be comfortable bringing ideas to the table to help solve problems or improve systems. 
- Familiarity with a range of social media platforms, and digital media systems is important. 
- Knowledge of AVID and Final Cut Pro editing systems.
