Morning News producer

Wisconsin Public Radio is looking for a producer to help its statewide morning shows stay on top of the news.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast paced and team-oriented environment.  The Morning Producer will, among other duties, write stories for broadcast and the web, as well as set up and edit interviews conducted by the host. Investigative Reporting Fellow

Senior TV Broadcast Engineer

Want to work in TV Broadcast Engineering and provide a valuable service to your community too? WVIZ/PBS ideastream, Cleveland’s Public TV station, is seeking an experienced engineer to be part of the team that supports the technology and systems within the Idea Center broadcast facility and the associated transmitter sites.  The successful candidate will have skills in both traditional TV Broadcast technologies as well as file-based IT centric systems. There is one full time and a part-time (fewer than 20 hours per week) position available.

The role is for an experienced Broadcast Engineer. The successful candidate must have:

  • Experience installing and supporting broadcast systems and equipment
  • Experience as a television production engineer, including operating audio consoles and camera shading.
  • Understanding of and ability to troubleshoot IT based systems.
  • Ability to maintain operations to FCC rules and regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, certification from a Technical Program, or at least 4+ years of equivalent experience. Society of Broadcast Engineers CBNT certification preferred
  • Experience with digital asset management systems a plus
  • Experience with video and audio editing software and editing storage area networks (SAN) systems preferred
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 on-call environment

Schedule:  Tuesday-Friday 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm (18 hours per week).  Also must have the ability to fill in for morning receptionist as need arises.             

 

Primary Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Greet station guests
  • Answer and route phone calls
  • Organize and prepare documents for prize winners
  • Additional duties include such as preparing mailings, pamphlets, and other projects that he/she may be asked to assist with from time to time.

 

Business Skills:

  • Proficient use of a computer and a calculator
  • General office and people skills
  • Detail Oriented
  • Basic computer skills including using Microsoft Outlook, Word, & Excel.

Professional Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum education of a high school diploma.  The candidate will also be able to work under pressure and within deadlines.

National Sales Manager

Based in Chicago or Quad Cities.  Responsible for all sales activity for assigned representative firm national offices; monitors and evaluates sales performance; assists in training and development of sales representatives; participates in setting and is accountable for meeting financial goals and growing market share; establishes and maintains positive working relationships with major agencies/clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accountable for meeting targeted financial budget and market share goals.  Monitors national sales activity on weekly basis from reports provided by internal and external monitoring sources.
  • Monitors performance of national representative firms through on-going evaluation of various areas including billing growth, share increase, success at selling sports, specials, pre- and post-sell efforts, attention to buyer’s and station’s needs and provides direction and guidance in developing sales goals and strategies to effectively meet these goals.
  • Assist rep firms in preparing sales presentations of major sports events and specials by gathering data from various station sources and overseeing preparation and presentation.
  • Packages available airtime, decides rates to be charged using station’s commercial rate card as guide and sells to national buyers.
  • Develops and maintains direct relationships with agencies and clients to promote station’s image.
  • Supervises national account coordinator and assists in the training and development of and rep firm sales personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or equivalent related experience.  Minimum five years experience in television sales.
  • Requires analytical and technical skills to analyze the markets, package, price and sell available airtime.
  • Requires demonstrable knowledge of sales, research and agency operations to train, motivate, direct and evaluate the performance of rep firm staff.  Requires a thorough knowledge of the ratings and strategies of each station and competing rep firms in the national markets.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with, negotiate with and influence internal and external contacts.
  • Requires the ability to analyze the market, set rates and direct national sales activity to meet established financial goals and market share.  Requires ability to effectively direct and influence national sales activity to get the best performance for the station.
