POSITION SUMMARY (Scope & Purpose)

Our news department is looking for an enthusiastic journalist to join news team.  This is a Multi-Media Journalist position that will typically showcase your live storytelling in our newscasts.  You must have proven skills in digging for stories, writing and producing for a winning news operation, and a competitive spirit to support the best breaking news operation in town.  We’re a full-service local news organization; we work 24/7 servicing our community on our newscasts and digital platforms.  You will be contributing video you shoot and stories you break, no matter the time of day. 

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shoot, write and edit your own story
  • Conceptualize story ideas and deliver the news in a dynamic presentation, with the ability of marketing your story in teases and headlines as required. 
  • Beat everyone in town with breaking news, preferably news you break!
  • Pitch in on the demanding work that goes on in a newsroom where everyone is asked to give their best effort.

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Must know what it takes to build a competitive, winning, and watchable, story.  Experience preferred, but the skill to offer “must see TV” the key!  You must demonstrate a keen sense of news judgment, it’s a given that you can shoot video, write and produce.  A positive, “can-do” approach is required, complainers without solutions will probably be sent to our competition! 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Dexterity to operate a keyboard, computer, editing equipment and other such equipment.  Must be able to operate and carry a video camera.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Communication skills used in office setting to report and produce news.
