Description:
This position is responsible for the daily preparation and delivery of the on air weather casts, as well as performing as a morning news
anchor and host. The successful incumbent will be responsible for daily participation and activity on station and individual social media
platforms, preparing and posting weather and related information on station digital platforms and/or the platforms of station
“partners” preparing and implementing a severe weather plan, establishing a philosophy for the best delivery of weather information
to the public, assisting with the maintenance of story boxes in the newsroom computer system including updating files and noting
possible story ideas, reviews newscasts to ensure objectives are attained, meets all scheduling and broadcast deadlines, attends and
participates in all scheduled meetings, and serves as back-up to Chief Meteorologist as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred. A degree or significant training meteorological science is a plus.
A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred, success in social media activity is a must. Must be
certified as a meteorologist or working toward and completing certification within the first 18 months of employment. Must have
experience in severe weather coverage and knowledge of industry-standard broadcast weather computer and radar systems. Must be
a great communicator and have ideas on how to make weather current, relevant and interesting to viewers even on days when the
weather is quiet. Demonstrated experience in use of social media and alert systems to disseminate weather information across
multiple platforms preferred. Ability to shoot, edit and report stories as well as do traditional weather casts. Must be flexible and able
to work overtime, holidays and varied hours required.
