Since 1968, Basic Black (formerly Say Brother) has reflected on the concerns and culture of African Americans through conversations, performances, and short-form documentaries. Basic Black captures the stories and events that illuminate the experience of communities of color in the Boston area and beyond.

Local TV Production produces award-winning television specials and series, including Greater Boston, Beat The Press, Basic Black and Open Studio for local broadcast and Web content in collaboration with wgbh.org.

Basic Black is produced live in WGBH's Studio B featuring a panel of the region’s sharpest observers of the current news, events, and topics impacting communities of color locally and nationally. A simultaneous live stream on Facebook Live and at www.basicblack.org gives viewers the opportunity to submit comments and questions in real-time during the broadcast.

Since 1968, Basic Black (formerly Say Brother) has reflected on the concerns and culture of African Americans through conversations, performances, and short-form documentaries. Basic Black captures the stories and events that illuminate the experience of communities of color in the Boston area and beyond.

The Associate Producer will serve as the primary research and editorial support source for Basic Black and perform other research projects as needed in the WGBH newsroom. Strong story research, writing, a savvy user of digital media and field producing skills required. Local contacts and experience working in the Boston area extremely helpful. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have good organizational and phone skills and have a strong interest in journalism, public affairs and assist in producing stories about people and communities of color.
Experience in news and public affairs is essential, as is a knowledge of and sincere interest in the city of Boston. Previous television experience a must, experience at WGBH or within the Boston market a plus.
A candidate should also expect to perform other TV support functions, such as assisting with field production, pre-interviews, setting up interviews, overseeing the production databases, and working to shut down the seasons working with the internal Admin and Legal teams.

This position will also provide production support as needed to various other local television productions such as Open Studio and Greater Boston.

Skills Required

At least 3 – 5 years of news, production, and journalism experience required

Bachelor's Degree required
