Under the supervision of the Supervising Producer, the Producer will undertake all aspects of production associated with The World. Working as part of a team, the Producer will originate story ideas, research, brief the host, produce studio interviews and mixes and edit audio for the radio broadcast. This is a job with demanding daily deadlines. The producer may also be expected to report and voice their own radio pieces. The Producer will be expected to create multi-media content for pri.org using the CMS, including writing posts, sourcing images, and creating slide shows when appropriate.
Department Overview
The World is a one-hour, nationally distributed weekday radio public affairs program co-produced by WGBH, the BBC World Service, and Public Radio International (PRI). The show offers a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe, developed specifically for an American audience. The World’s companion website, pri.org, offers a similar mix of news and features along with slideshows, videos, blog posts, podcasts, and interactive graphics that expand on the radio content. The World and pri.org use social media and other relevant tools to maximize user engagement and enhance the user experience.
Skills Required
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 2 years experience as a radio producer/journalist and a significant track record in global affairs journalism. The candidate must have experience of working to daily deadlines and be able to work simultaneously on a range of subjects from hard news to human interest features. The candidate will have a strong track record in generating original and imaginative story ideas. The candidate must be an excellent writer, possess strong technical skills in digital audio editing and be proficient with the latest multimedia tools. The candidate should understand CMS platforms. Experience working or living overseas is preferred. The candidate must be self-motivated and capable of independent work but must also perform well in a collaborative environment.
Bachelor's degree required.
